I am a lot of things.
I’m an author, or something like that. I’m a transgender woman. I’m a Hopwood Award winner. I’m Uruguayan, and also Argentinian, and also sometimes American and sometimes, technically, Puerto Rican. I’m Jewish-ish. I write about all these little identities of mine. And about many other subjects I find equal parts meaningful and intriguing.
While I cannot claim to have developed a singular style, I can write a little bit about my largest inspirations. Vonnegut. Murakami. The authors of the Latin American Boom, and Borges before them. Allison Bechdel, Art Spiegelman, and many more. These influences are, I think, somewhat apparent in my work, and I am not ashamed of that. You are what you eat, as they say …

On Some Less-Than-Literary Endeavors
Some people know me as “CalamariKurusu,” which is a mouthful, and as you can plainly see above, not at all my name. It is, however, the username I go by, and the online presence under which I have competed in fighting games (primarily in Guilty Gear Strive) for many years. If you are one of the people that knows me by this tag and are now visiting this website, I am deeply grateful: your support means the world to me.
I have long struggled to reconcile my “literary persona,” with which I intend to get, y’know, jobs, and my hobby of complaining about Guilty Gear (and, on occasion, even playing it). This text is that reconciliation. While this website is dedicated to said “literary persona,” I think it would be dishonest to write an About Me page that does not mention this other, equally important part of me. Through fighting games, I have experienced some of the happiest and some of the saddest moments of my life, and met lots of wonderful people. I have also made some contributions, however small, to the fighting game community, which I am linking to below. My (other) Twitter account, my Youtube page, my Twitch page, and my Notion-powered Zato resource compendium. If you are reading this page and are not at all into fighting games, or esports in general, I think you should give them a try. They’re wonderful, I’ve written about them quite a bit, and I plan to continue doing so.
